Alexandra Cinematografica 70 years of Italian cinema, television, and creativity

Alexandra Produzioni Cinematografiche was founded in 1950 by Franz and Virgilio de Blasi. During the golden years of Italian cinema, in the 1950s and 1960s, the company established itself as one of the most active production houses of the period, producing over forty feature films.

Throughout its history, it has collaborated with directors such as Terence Young, Federico Fellini, Marco Ferreri, Vittorio Cottafavi, Marcel Camus, Claude Chabrol, and Sergio Gobbi, as well as with actors including Marcello Mastroianni, Alan Ladd, Lino Ventura, Virna Lisi, Alberto Sordi, Tony Curtis, Charles Bronson, Jack Palance, Ettore Manni, Carroll Baker, Elsa Martinelli, Michèle Morgan, Robert Hossein, and Charles Aznavour.

Over the past five years, Alexandra Cinematografica has continued its production activities with both national and international film projects. Among these:

Butterflies in Berlin, directed by Monica Manganelli and co-produced with Germany, was selected in approximately 350 international festivals, became a finalist in around 60, and won 29 awards, including at Tel Aviv and New York (four statuettes). The film received a longlist selection letter for the Academy Awards and is currently distributed in the United States by Amazon and in Italy by Rai Cinema.

Alongside film production, Alexandra is active in developing series and documentary content. It has acquired the film rights to all of Andrea Vitali’s novels published by Garzanti—over forty titles, each with an average of 200,000 copies sold—and co-produced with Rai Fiction the TV series Una finestra Vistalago, consisting of two seasons of eight 50-minute episodes, directed by Marco Pontecorvo. It also produced Vestiti con il Cuore, a docu-series based on the FAO project Fashion for Eco-Fragile Systems, in collaboration with RAI DOC, La Sapienza University, and the FAO.

The historical catalog of Alexandra Produzioni Cinematografiche includes numerous notable titles, such as Le legioni di Cleopatra, La rivolta dei gladiatori, I giganti della Tessaglia, Racconti d’estate, Le Amazzoni – le guerriere dal seno nudo, Les Biches, L’Harem, La spada del Cid, Sfida al re di Castiglia, L’età selvaggia, La tigre ama la carne fresca, Una vampata di violenza, and Tedeum.
